A Typical Weekday Morning and Night

Daily Life

On weekdays, I wake up at 7:00 a.m.

To fully wake myself up, I take a hot shower, brush my teeth, shave, and fix my hair.
By 7:30, I leave the house.

Around that time, my son usually wakes up.
My wife and daughter are still asleep most mornings.

As I’ve mentioned before, I commute to my office in central Tokyo by train.
Along the way, I buy some bread and soy milk. I quickly eat them before work starts, and at 9:00 a.m., my workday begins.


Work During the Day

I am responsible for a product development division.
My days are filled with emails to business partners, adjusting production schedules, giving instructions to my team, and attending meetings.

Honestly, I often feel like I need two versions of myself.


Lunch Break

Around noon, I get a one-hour lunch break.

Most days, I keep it simple—rice balls and side dishes from the convenience store next to the office.
After eating, I browse the internet for a bit, take a short smoke break, brush my teeth, and before I know it, the hour is over.


Afternoon and a Small Secret

Work resumes at 1:00 p.m., but in the afternoon I often go out for meetings with clients.

Sometimes I travel far, but most of the time, meetings are just a short subway ride away since many companies are clustered in the same area.
After each meeting, I usually return to the office.

During these outings, I have a small secret habit.

I like to stop by a café and quietly enjoy a cup of coffee.
I keep my laptop open so it looks like I’m working, but in my head, I’m completely off-duty.

When I look around the café, I see many other salarymen doing the same thing.
That makes me feel strangely at ease.


After Work

Our official workday ends at 6:00 p.m.

If I have plans, I leave right away.
Most of the time, though, I stay a bit longer, slowly taking care of leftover tasks.

If it gets late, I sometimes go out for drinks with coworkers who are in the same situation.
But recently, drinking affects me the next day, so I often head straight home instead.


The Walk Home

The commute home also takes about an hour by train.

I have one rule I always follow.
On my iPhone, I check how many steps I’ve walked that day. My daily goal is 10,000 steps.

If I haven’t reached it, I get off one station early and walk the rest of the way home.
This habit makes a big difference in how much weight I lose.

The walk is about two kilometers.
Places I usually pass by in a car feel completely different when I walk. I often notice small things I would otherwise miss, and it’s surprisingly enjoyable.


At Home

When I get home, my wife is usually scolding our son for not studying, and the mood is tense.

So I quietly slip into my room, change clothes, and wait calmly until dinner is ready.

Tonight, just like many other nights, I’m spending that quiet time writing this blog.
